Whiskey Sour

The Whiskey Sour is a shaken cocktail made with bourbon, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup, served in a rocks glass or coupe. An egg white version produces a silky foam top that holds three drops of Angostura bitters as a visual finish.

Method

  1. Combine bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white in a shaker.
  2. Dry shake without ice for 10 seconds.
  3. Add ice and shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds.
  4. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice or into a chilled coupe.
  5. Drop three drops of Angostura bitters on top.

Garnish

Three drops of Angostura on top. Optional lemon peel.

Pro tip

The dry shake is what builds the foam. Skip it and you get a flat top with grey, separating egg. It takes ten extra seconds and changes the drink entirely.
