Martini

The Martini is a stirred cocktail made with gin and dry vermouth, served in a chilled coupe and garnished with a lemon peel or olive. The classic ratio runs five parts gin to one part vermouth, though wetter versions remain in use.

Method

  1. Combine gin and dry vermouth in a mixing glass.
  2. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for 30 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. Garnish with a lemon peel or olive.

Garnish

Lemon peel expressed and dropped in, or one quality olive on a pick.

Pro tip

Stir, do not shake. Shaking aerates and clouds the drink, dropping the temperature too fast and giving you a watery, foamy texture instead of a clean, cold one.
