Grenadine
Grenadine is a sweet-tart pomegranate syrup used in classic cocktails like the Jack Rose, Pink Lady, and Bacardi Cocktail. Home-made grenadine uses real pomegranate juice rather than the high-fructose corn syrup and red dye found in most commercial bottles. A small pour of pomegranate molasses adds depth without dulling the bright fruit flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice (fresh-pressed or 100% pomegranate)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp pomegranate molasses
- 1 dash orange flower water
Method
- Warm the pomegranate juice in a small saucepan over low heat. Do not boil.
- Stir in sugar until fully dissolved.
- Off heat, stir in pomegranate molasses and orange flower water.
- Cool to room temperature.
- Bottle and refrigerate. Keeps 3 weeks refrigerated.
Pro tip
Warm the juice gently and never boil; boiling drives off the bright pomegranate aroma and dulls the color from ruby to brown.
