Gimlet
The Gimlet is a shaken cocktail made with London Dry gin and lime cordial, served in a chilled coupe. The two-ingredient British Navy formula is the canonical version. Modern fresh-lime variations split the cordial into separate lime juice and simple syrup, but the original is built on cordial alone.
Ingredients
- 2 oz London Dry gin
- 1 oz lime cordial
- Lime wheel

Built for shaken drinks
The Shaken Set
Boston Shaker · Hawthorne Strainer · Jigger
Method
- Combine gin and lime cordial in a shaker.
- Fill with ice and shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds.
- Double-strain into a chilled coupe.
- Garnish with a lime wheel or expressed lime peel.
Garnish
Lime wheel or expressed lime peel.
Pro tip
Rose's is the historically correct cordial and what every Navy bar poured. A homemade cordial gives you control over the sugar and acid, and it is worth making once you understand the spec. Skip anything labeled 'lime juice cordial' that is mostly corn syrup and food coloring.
