Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a built highball cocktail of vodka, fresh lime juice, and ginger syrup (or ginger beer), served over ice in a copper mug with a lime wedge. It was invented in 1941 at the Cock 'n' Bull restaurant in Los Angeles as a marketing partnership between Smirnoff vodka and Cock 'n' Bull ginger beer. The copper mug serves the drink very cold and gives a metallic edge that complements the ginger.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz ginger syrup
  • 3 oz cold soda water, to top

Method

  1. Add vodka, lime juice, and ginger syrup to a chilled copper mug.
  2. Fill with fresh ice.
  3. Top with cold soda water.
  4. Stir once gently to integrate without killing the bubbles.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge and a sprig of fresh mint.

Garnish

Lime wedge and fresh mint sprig

Pro tip

House ginger syrup with cold soda outperforms most bottled ginger beers; the bottled stuff is usually too sweet and loses the fresh ginger bite by the time it ships.
